At the California dairy site, the team is studying the effects of soil tillage and manure nutrient management on soil health outcomes and soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The researchers are evaluating the capacity for various soil health management systems to produce a sufficient forage crop for the affiliated dairy studying whether these systems simultaneously improve the overall health of the cropland soil and reduce soil GHG emissions. Key in this process are nitrogen and water management as well as a form of manure nutrient application (liquid or solid).
